The Raccoon River is threatening to flood homes and businesses in Dallas County tonight. Kinnick Feller Park flooded over the weekend. Monday, the city tried to keep the water from causing even more damage.

"It's very stressful for a lot of our residents here. We're very optimistic we can provide protection," says Adel Police Chief Jim McNeill. Adel is using a new sandbagging system. Instead of thousands of individual bags, workers are filling a four feet tall barrier with sand. "We're putting our new flood system that we got in place to go across those areas that are a little bit lower and impacted by the increasing flood waters," says McNeill. Adel has about 2200 feet of flood barriers.

"Just praying that we don't get rain," says Ron Plagmann from The Car Store. His business sits on the north side of town right along Highway 169. The Iowa Department of Transportation closed 169 from Highway 6 to Highway 44 this morning due to flooding. "If we get more rain then we're going to be very concerned about it," he says.
