River City Slim and the Zydeco Hogs. (September 28, 2012)

Hartford’s popular BBQ and blues joint, Black-eyed Sally’s, will be hosting their first annual Blues Cruise on Oct. 14.

Owner James Varano says he’s had this idea in mind for years: to put together an event that included a boat ride, live music and a dinner buffet, courtesy of the chefs at Sally’s. “I’ve been wanting to throw this event for a long a time now but just never got around to it,” he says. “But this year I decided, What the heck, and just went on setting it up for the Fall.”

The boat, called the Lady Katharine, will leave from the Charter Oak Landing in Hartford at 4 p.m. and will cruise on the Connecticut River while guests enjoy Cajun cooking and BBQ and live music from two award-winning local bands: Ryan Hartt & the Blue Hearts and River City Slim and the Zydeco Hogs. Varano and the rest of the Black-eyed Sally’s crew are expecting a little over 200 guests to board for a night of festivities. Tickets are $60 a person.
