Herb and Dorothy were unlikely art collectors. He was a retired postal worker, and she was a librarian, but together they built an art collection worth millions of dollars. In 2008, they gave away 2,500 works to museums in all fifty states, not collecting a single dollar in the process. They wanted to give back to the people of the United States. Filmmaker Megumi Sasaki made a documentary called Herb and Dorothy 50x50 about the eccentric couple and the recipient museums of the art, and he'll be at the Avon Theatre Wednesday night to screen the film and to discuss it afterword.
