A UConn law student has been arrested and ordered to stay off the school's West Hartford campus over a series of disturbing comments she reportedly made online. WFSB reports that the investigation began after 32-year-old Anya Bargh allegedly suggested in an email to the Student Bar Association that the school "celebrate diversity by having the next dean NOT be Jewish." Bargh, a wholesome-looking blonde, reportedly made several other anti-Semitic remarks and used a racial epitaph for African-Americans in the email thread. Police later found a Flickr account apparently belonging to her that featured photos of Barbie dolls in miniature murder scenes along with comments referencing her professors. ("I hate you so much I would like to see you butchered," she allegedly wrote about one.) Teachers told police Bargh was hostile and frequently filed complaints challenging poor grades or mischaracterizing attempts at one-on-one help as sexual harassment.
Elizabeth Etsy is the Democratic congresswoman from Connecticut's Fifth District. Her husband, Dan Etsy, is the commissioner of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. This just might be why employees and lobbyists of Northeast Utilities, the hulking gas and electric company her husband is in charge of regulating, contributed $3,500 to Etsy for her 2012 congressional campaign and upcoming reelection bid. The National Republican Campaign Committee, which stands firmly against corporate influence of politics when it benefits Democrats, began making a stink over it. Within a week, Etsy returned the money to NU, seeking to end an "unnecessary distraction," her spokesperson told the Hartford Courant. Still as of yet unreturned: the $26,000 from other energy and environmental sources donated to her campaigns.
The Victoria's Secret in Fairfield is losing its panties like it's a hair-band groupie in the '80s. The Fairfield Citizen reports that last week 160 pairs of lace undies, worth $1,770, were stolen from the store, which lingerie thieves have apparently been ransacking for months. Last July, it lost $870 worth of frilly goods in a shoplifting heist. In June, someone swiped 65 pairs of panties valued at $650. In May, a robber cleaned it out of $600 worth of goods. In November of 2011, someone made off with $1,000 worth of brassieres, and $700 in bras were taken in a separate incident that August. In spite of this, employees still allowed two women with backpacks to peruse the place, according to the police report of the latest incident.
A woman advocating for more respect for people with mental disorders totally did not undermine her own point or anything when she chained herself to a tree outside the Middletown Superior Court. Self-described "mad pride" activist April Fawn Scheller sat chained to the tree for several hours, holding a sign reading "end decimation." Scheller, 32, particularly wants to end the insanity defense and involuntary hospitalization, she told the Middletown Press. "I get locked up a lot," she added. In this incident, police did not intercede.
Carol Ann Mansfield allegedly showed up at her ex-boyfriend's New Haven residence and demanded the $20 she felt he owed her, even though their relationship ended 10 years prior. Because she was being loud and attracting the attention of neighbors, the man gave her the twenty, police told the New Haven Register, but later called the police, who discovered that Mansfield, 44, was wanted on four outstanding warrants.
At around 3 a.m., Michael Peterson allegedly entered Sam's Food Mart in West Haven while wearing a mask and carrying a handsaw (like the kind used to cut wood). Peterson, 33, apparently failed to convince the clerk to hand over his money, so he allegedly grabbed the entire cash register and ran, reports the Connecticut Post. Police caught up with him the next day.
Local dumbass Michael Carey ended up hospitalized in critical condition after he was thrown from the hood of a moving car in what he later told police was part of a "dangerous game." The New Haven Register reports that Carey, 21, was riding atop the hood in New Haven when his friend Naquasia Ricks quickly hit the breaks and the obvious result ensued.
Children Are Dicks: The staff of a McDonald's in Fairfield called police to repel three juveniles who allegedly insulted employees, squirted ketchup onto the ceiling, threw food at other patrons and even made fun of a special-needs child, pelting her in the face with food. The Fairfield Citizen reports that officers escorted the three little monsters home.
Richard Morawski of Fairfield allegedly responded to a group of teenagers standing outside his window yelling profanities by getting on his dirt bike and chasing them with a machete. During his rampage, Morawski, 45, managed to strike two mailboxes and smash the side mirror of a Jeep, police told the Fairfield Citizen.
