A West Hartford police officer was reportedly assaulted by a man and woman around 7 p.m. on Dec. 9 after responding to what appeared to be a domestic dispute, the Hartford Courant reports. The couple were said to be sitting in a parked vehicle in the vicinity of Park and Broad Streets and apparently reeked of marijuana smoke. Officers began to remove the man from the vehicle when he refused to cooperate, at which point the woman jumped on the back of one of the officers, causing minor scrapes to his hand. The couple have been charged with possession of marijuana, interfering with police, and assault on an officer.
Jessie’ll Be Plenty Disappointed This X-mas
Connecticut State Police cleverly intercepted a delivery of marijuana packaged in boxes wrapped as Christmas gifts, the New Haven Register reports.
The shipment of 110 pounds, valued at about $400,000, originated in California and was packaged in boxes wrapped in Christmas paper, ribbons, bows, and tags reading, “To Jessie, From Santa.” A suspect, reported to be a 29-year-old self-employed musician who told police he was the intended recipient of the package, faces various charges including possession of more than a kilogram of marijuana and possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school. In a statement to the Register, State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said he felt the operation was an “extremely successful operation by the Statewide Narcotics Task Force to take this much marijuana off the streets of the city of New Haven.”
Pretty Damn Sad
A 40-year-old homeless man is being held in lieu of $1 million bail for allegedly beating another man to death with a baseball bat, the Post-Chronicle reports.
The as-yet unidentified victim was found in a makeshift shelter shared by the two men beside the Farmington Canal “rail-to-trail” project some seven hours after the beating took place. Hamden Police were contacted by an acquaintance of the accused, stating he was asked to help bury the body. The alleged beater was arrested a half hour later selling newspapers outside a donut shop.
Hamden police are classifying the incident as domestic violence, and Police Chief Thomas J. Wydra told reporters he believes the relationship between the two men “apparently goes beyond living together.” When asked for further clarification, Sergeant Anthony Diaz was unable to comment further, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
I Love My Sweatshirt
Middletown Police arrested a man and woman at a pizza restaurant on Nov. 30 for brawling over a sweatshirt, the Middletown Press reports.
The woman allegedly grabbed the man’s hoodie, which was a gift she had given him when they were dating, and tried to remove it forcibly from his back. When that failed, she allegedly threw a drink on him, at which point he shoved her to the ground. Both individuals were charged with disorderly conduct and released. They are due to appear in court next month.
