1st) Yale University Art Gallery
Yale University Art Gallery displays artwork from across continents for free to the New Haven public. Excellent. Gallery educators Dara Lipton and Roland Dimaya say the Gallery “sees itself as a teaching gallery” for an audience larger than Yale art majors. Lipton and Dimaya offer visitors weekly tours of the collection, and a dedicated staff of local docents invest personally in the success of free youth and adult tours. In 2013, renovations on just over half the gallery will be finished — notably expanding each floor and collection. Right now, check out exhibits Embodied: Black Identities in American Art and Old Javanese Gold: The Hunter Thompson Collection, running through June and August, respectively.
