1st) Leon's Restaurant
Food just tastes better when there's a beautiful view, and when it comes to views, it's hard to beat Leon's, which overlooks Long Island Sound. Even without the view, the food at Leon's is hard to beat, says chef-owner Eddie Varipapa. Leon's used to be located in the Hill neighborhood, and after a brief stint in Hamden moved near the water in 2007. There, the restaurant and bar provides access from all points north and south. Leon's boasts a huge bar with a spectacular water view as well as a private dining room on the second floor that's often booked five nights a week. Right about now is the beginning of the busy season, Varipapa says. Once you hit St. Patrick's Day, Leon's is hopping with help from live entertainment from then all the way to Christmas. Oh, and the food? Contemporary Italian-American as well as classic Italian fare, just right for mama on Mother's Day, May 8. And don't forget about the "goodie list," a menu that has everything that's fresh that day. You can forgetaboutit tomorrow.
