Andrea Turrisi first cut hair in his father’s shop in Sicily, when he was 9. "I would cut his hair and my mother’s hair," he remembers. "He taught me how to cut." Turrisi came stateside in 1968 and opened his first shop a couple of years later. He’s now celebrating his 37th year in Hartford (and sixth at a second location in Avon), and he’s proud to serve everyone, from affluent downtown types to the merely down-to-earth. Any famous customers? "I cut Paul Newman’s hair once," he says. "Terrific guy. He said, ‘Looks great.’"
