1st) Norwalk Music
Norwalk Music started in 1979 as a music teaching studio, and not only does the shop continue to offer lessons on an array of instruments, but that expertise carries over to the sales floor. “There’s no trial by fire,” owner Mike Spremulli says of his sales staff — they’re selected for their people skills and educated in the products before they start working. “People go to our store looking for an expert,” he points out. Spremulli says Norwalk Music has 36 instructors whose knowledge spans “all the band instruments, all the orchestra instruments, even ukulele.” In addition to selling instruments, the shop also caters increasingly to repairs, so you can have that old beater guitar refurbished instead of spending so much of your thinly-stretched dollars on a new one.
