Long Wharf, which didn't have one of its usual summer seasons of popular mainstream comedy shows last summer due to the extensive renovations of its mainstage and lobby, leaps back into the fray this summer by booking the current U.S. tour of A Couple of Blaguards. The play is a series of amusing stories by the Irish brothers Frank & Malachy McCourt, who devised the script in the 1970s then went to pen a series of bestselling memoirs about their Irish upbringing. (Frank, a retired schoolteacher, wrote Angela's Ashes and 'Tis; Malachy, a professional actor and bartender, penned A Monk Swimming.)
At the Long Wharf, the McCourts will be portrayed by veteran stage and TV actor Howard Platt (who also directs the production) and Jarlath Conroy, currently playing the Gravedigger in Hamlet at the Yale Rep.
The show will run from May 21 to June 2. Tickets are $40. Details at (203) 787-4282, www.longwharf.org
