Back in 1998, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore starred in a movie about a New Jersey guy who sang at weddings in 1986 who was jilted by his own girl and therefore left angry and bitter at the happy couples he was hired to entertain. If you do the math, that means the movie took place in a time 12 years before its release. It's currently 2013, and the movie The Wedding Singer is now 15 years old. Is your mind blown yet? See the Bridgeport Theatre Company's version of the show every Friday through Sunday until the last production on June 9th.

There are fans of the Harry Potter series, and then there are the Potter Superfans. If you're one of the former, head to Potted Potter , a completely unauthorized, hilarious condensation of ALL SEVEN books into a single show, performed by only two dudes. (If you're a Superfan, however, you'll be too busy studying up on locavore Mugglewort varietals to leave the house. Too bad!)

We spend much of our lives trying to filter out the voices of our parents and grandparents from out heads, but at some point it becomes apparent that our world view has been shaped by them. In Black Tie , the current show by Square One Theatre, the father of the groom (named Curtis) is attending his son's wedding somewhere in the Adirondacks. He wants to make a memorable toast, but first he must defend the ways of his past, including his clothes. A surprise guest arrives and causes some chaos, so Curtis needs to figure out how to balance the standards of his own deceased father with the needs of his future family. It was written by playwright A.R. Gurney, and it closes out Square One's 23rd season.

It's been a good couple of years for the Gershwins. Composer George (who died in 1937 at the age of 38) and lyricist Ira (who outlived his brother by nearly half a century, dying age 86 in 1983) are currently represented by two very different Broadway musicals. The nuttily nostalgic Nice Work If You Can Get (which was initially developed at Connecticut's own Goodspeed Opera House in 2001) continues to play at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway (where it's slated to close June 15). The cutting-edge reimagining The Gershwin's Porgy & Bess — a shortened and reimagined version of the groundbreaking folk opera — had to extend its New York run into last fall, and will soon start a national tour.
