For the first time in my life, I had real, authentic Chinese food, not the American-ized stuff we're so used to. Not that I don't love what's on the majority of Chinese restaurant menus I've come across, but the food at New Haven's Taste of China on Chapel Street is delicious and seems to be made out of real food.
Austen and I looked for whatever we could find on their menu with three or four chili peppers next to the name (the universal spice level indicator) and ended up walking out with Wu Shan Beef (sliced beef with crushed chili peppers), Dan Dan Noodles (noodles in a spicy/peanuty sauce), Rice Bean Jelly (strips of bean noodle-y things in a spicy sauce) and Chicken with Chili and Sichuan Pepper (exactly what it says).
Honestly, nothing was crazy spicy. But everything was crazy delicious. I can't wait to go stuff my face full of Dan Dan Noodles again.
