Two weeks ago, you watched Austen and I suffer a pain unimaginable to those who've never put anything above 8,000 Scoville heat units in their mouths. (I think the pepper used in the Suicide sauce from Dew Drop ranks in at more than 1 million Scoville heat units, so, yeah.) This week, we opted for something we were at least relatively familiar with: Thai food.
We ventured out to The Terrace in Hamden, after hearing from a friend that if you order your Drunken Noodle a certain way, it'll be hotter than hell, but they were closed for May 7 and May 7 only. Bummer. So we walked about a block down Dixwell to Thai Awesome, because, it was right there, and I've heard it's, well, awesome.
We asked our hostess for the highest level of spicy they serve, which she said is Level 5. We made sure to stress that we wanted it to be spicy. She claimed she could only tolerate up to Level 3, and that we'd be ready to move to Thailand if a 5 was no biggie. This made us nervous. After last time, we know not to take anyone's word lightly.
Truth be told, Level 5 was no biggie. It was very spicy, but this is how spicy I want Thai food to be when I order it. Austen agreed. Not for the uninitiated, and not for those of you who start sweating while eating medium salsa, that's for sure. Our Drunken Noodle and Red Curry were delicious. I'm definitely looking forward to getting the Red Curry again. But as far as spice is concerned, it was no challenge at all. Oh well. Next time.
