Winter is for whisky, we say. Whether you have your favorite go-to blend or are tasting around in the spirit of the season, the flavorful, golden beverage is a welcome addition to other winter-appropriate beverages. The Owl Shop hosts a single malt and cigar tasting this week, featuring a number of Bowmore Distillery's single malts.
Bowmore Distillery makes its home on Islay (pronounced "eye-la"), an Island off the western coast of Scotland. The island itself is small, but is described as a "whisky mecca" by the brewery, noting that the island is home to roughly 3,000 people, and eight distilleries. Yes, eight whisky distilleries. Bowmore prides itself on being the oldest of the bunch, and has been producing single malt whisky continuously since 1779.
At this Jan. 24 tasting at The Owl Shop, you'll be able to try the Bowmore Legend, Bowmore 12 Year (pictured here), Bowmore 15 year, and the Dorus Mor 10 Year, a whisky that is new to Connecticut. Tickets are $15 and include a cigar to go with the samples.
Single Malt & Cigar Tasting: Jan. 24, 6-8 p.m., $15, The Owl Shop, 268 College St., New Haven, (203) 624-3250, owlshopcigars.
