When you think of making s'mores, a roasting marshmallow held over a warm campfire probably comes to mind. Do you also imagine yourself making them while sitting knee deep in snow and ice? Probably not. However, even though we're heading into winter, restaurants in Connecticut have incorporated s'mores into their menus so we can still enjoy these treats ... while inside. Belle Terrace in Avon includes a "Make Your Own S'Mores" station in their high-end buffet-style Sunday brunch. The station was thought up by Chef Stefan Drago to try and make Belle Terrace's brunch more accessible to his customers. "I wanted to come up with something that was not your usual brunch," he says. "Both kids and adults love the idea of making s'mores indoors. You can tell because it always has a long line." In addition to all the regular ingredients, Belle Terrace also offers hot chocolate along with fresh peppermint candy canes, white and dark chocolate pearls and peanut butter chips among others.
Mike Rock, who co-owns Stir the Pot in East Windsor with his girlfriend Sarah Muska, had his s'more treat featured on NBC Connecticut. After dipping french toast in graham cracker crumbs, he deep fries it and covers it in honey glaze, marshmallows and chocolate chips. The end result is the S'More French Toast. "Since we are heading into winter, I thought that this would be a great idea," he says. But how did he come up with it? "I was originally thinking about the Big E and how they have all these deep-fried foods," says Rock. "And since kids have frozen french toast sticks, I thought 'why not fry 'em?'"
