The 2011 movie awards season has finally begun, and as usual, most of the nominees are stuffy¿yet mostly well made¿dramas. Yet if you look at Rotten Tomatoes, Brad Bird's new "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" has an impressive 95% positive rating. So why isn't this on any of the lists? Year-in and year-out groups like the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ignore movies that fit readily into popular categories, like those of the superhero, science fiction, or children's genres.
