Over the years, the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz has brought some legendary musicians — McCoy Tyner, George Shearing, Dave Brubeck, John Scofield, Ahmad Jamal and many others — to Hartford. This year's festival marks the Hartford return of trumpeter Arturo Sandoval (pictured, July 19 at 8:30 p.m.), who performed at the festival in 1993. Other highlights this year include the New Urban Jazz Party (Sat., 6 p.m.), Ross Tucker's Hot Cat Dixieland Jazz Band (Sun., 10 a.m., at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford) and the Steve Davis All-Star Sextet (Sun., 7:30 p.m.) featuring Larry Willis, Billy Pierce, Josh Bruneau, Peter Washington and Billy "The Kid" Williams. It's all free; visit hartfordjazz.com for details.
