You don't need a lot of band members to get asses shaking, it turns out. The Syracuse, N.Y.-based trio Sophistafunk (pictured) have only one (two-handed) Moog-ist, a drummer and a vocalist/rapper guy, and that seems to be plenty. (Their electro-funk-hip-hop-soul full-length Twenty Eleven, available on their Bandcamp page, is all the proof you need. But really, you have to hear how this music works in public, which is why you should head to East Coast Dog's Hartford Room on Saturday night.)
June 15, The Hartford Room at East Coast Dog, 257 Asylum St., Hartford, (860) 246-7904.
