Slaid Cleaves was raised in Maine, but he began his career as a street busker in Cork City, Ireland in 1985 while still in college. By 1990, he'd honed his craft and began to get noticed close to home, in and around Portland, Maine. He moved to Austin in 1991, before the city's population exploded and it still resembled what you see in Richard Linklater's Slacker. Now he's supporting his new album Still Fighting the War and playing a free show in Ridgefield's Ballard Park on the 4th of July (before the fireworks) as part of the town's free CHIRP concert series.
