In 1973, during demo recording sessions for the soundtrack album Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Bob Dylan wrote a chorus for a partially-written song that was referred to as "Rock Me Mama." While still in high school, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote some verses to go along with the chorus without thinking about it too much. The band recorded it for their 2004 album O.C.M.S., and it has since taken on a life of its own, an odd co-write between Bob Dylan and some 17-year-old kid who didn't know that he's not supposed to write lyrics to a Bob Dylan song. Now that kid is all grown up, and still playing the tune which has become something of a standard in the Americana circuit. Old Crow Medicine Show will be at the Capitol Theatre this Friday night.
