Kali Ma plays gnarly, intricate, super-precise progressive metal with songs that move from one distinct movement to another. It's not just a display of chops, though: "Music should be able to convey the human emotion, and we want people to feel a certain way," drummer Shawn Cavanaugh says via e-mail. Sophisticated as the band's sound is, they're just getting started. Cavanaugh says they're seeking a lead vocalist, and when they couldn't initially find one, they forged ahead as an all-instrumental outfit. Clearly their impatience is paying off.
