Best Metal: Nasty Disaster
Yeah, that's right: This year, readers voted a comedy metal band the area's best metal act. Nasty Disaster purveys one of Connecticut's longest-running musical jokes, with their '80sriffic wigs, period pseudonyms (Ian MacRok, Dick McPlenty et al) and endless parade of songs about heavy metal and heavy metal culture. But these part-time Hessians kid because they obviously love. You can't cut this close without knowing your subject extremely well — and somewhere in the process of being a novelty metal band they've become a very real and proficient one.
