Meiko, The Bright Side (May 22, 2012) |
Singer-songwriter Meiko's sophomore record is a charming collection of 11 tracks that comfortably straddle the line between blissful pop, groovy jams and toe-tappin' folk, with a splash of electronic elements thrown in the mix for good measure. She sings about love in the same way a relationship could run its course: Do-do-dos and la-la-las in the beginning, dealing with friends' differing opinions about the object of your affection, grasping for security, being consumed by affection. Meiko's songs are catchy odes to being a girl. Her sweet voice takes center stage, not to overpower the rest of the tracks, but attesting to the fact that these are her thoughts. These are the kinds of tunes that sunny, twitter-pated, rainbow-and-unicorn daydreams are made of.
