Buck Brannaman

Buck Brannaman (Emily Knight photo)

Real-life cowboy Buck Brannaman took the lemons life gave him (an abusive childhood) and made some lemonade. He became a horse-whisperer of sorts, teaching people to communicate with horses with leadership and sensitivity, not punishment. It sounds like it shouldn't be a revolutionary concept in this day and age, but for some reason it is. The visually-stimulating film Buck tells Brannaman's life story. It'll be screened Friday night at the Ridgefield Playhouse, followed by a Q&A with director Cindy Meehl, producer Julie Goldman and editor Toby Shimin. And it's only five bucks. (Get it? Bucks?)

The Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 East Ridge, Ridgefield. Fri., Feb. 10, 7:30 p.m. $5. (203) 438-5795, ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
