Local writer Elisabeth H. Breslav grew up during World War II. She survived the Nazi occupation of Holland and the "Hunger Winter," which extended into 1945 as a result of the failed 1944 Allied Operation Market Garden, written about in Cornelius Ryan's A Bridge Too Far. Breslav contributed a chapter detailing her time as a child in a warzone to That Mad Game: Growing Up in a Warzone, an anthology of essays from around the globe, and will read and sign the work on Feb. 23 at R.J. Julia in Madison.
