Spring is here, and with it comes the scents and subtle sounds of nature. Connecticut is a great place for flower-peeping, so get out there, breathe in the fresh air, let the sun warm your face and listen to some wondrous springtime sounds. Here are a few suggestions to make this season the best you've had since, well, last spring.
Poetry & Daffodils, April 6, Homestead at Maples Farm Park, 45 Bozrah St., Bozrah, bozrahfarmersmarket.org. Celebrate National Poetry Month, the coming of spring and the blooming of a thousands daffodils on the park grounds with poetry readings.
40th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, April 14 (rain date April 21), Wooster Square Park, New Haven, historicwoostersquare.org. Free entertainment including jazz, steel band, big band music and opera, children's arts & crafts, pet-related events, local food vendors and display tables with Wooster Square history.
32nd Annual Fine Art & Flowers, April 19-21, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 600 Main St., Hartford, (860) 278-2670, thewadsworth.org. A weekend of art, creative garden designs, special events and jazz.
National Arbor Day, April 26. Join the Arbor Day Foundation ($10 contribution; visit arborday.org) and receive 10 free shade trees for planting. We need them.
Meriden Daffodil Festival, April 27-28, 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Hubbard Park, Meriden, (203) 630-4259, daffodilfest.com. Free. Over half a million daffodils, dozens of great local bands, food, rides and fireworks.
Spring Birding and Wildflower Walks, through May 25, Audubon Greenwich & Audubon Connecticut, 613 Riversville Road, Greenwich, greenwich.audubon.org, audubonct.org. Check website for complete schedule of bird walks, hikes, flower peeping and other outdoors-y spring fare.
52nd Annual May Gardeners' Market, May 4, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., rain or shine, Garden Education Center of Greenwich, 130 Bible St., Cos Cob, Connecticut, (203) 869-9242, gecgreenwich.org, free. Select vendors selling annuals, perennials, heirloom vegetables, wildflowers, herbs and all kinds of other green-ish stuff.
