Prolific non-fiction author and poet Diane Ackerman (pictured) is one of the rare examples of a writer whose name has entered popular culture. Her 1990 bestseller, A Natural History of the Senses, was turned into a five-part Nova miniseries for PBS called Mystery of the Senses. She has written over 20 books of non-fiction, poetry and children's books as well as dozens of essays for The New York Times, National Geographic, The New Yorker and other highbrow media sources. (She even has a molecule — dianeackerone — named after her.) Ackerman will discuss the writer's life on March 7.
