It's that time of year where we celebrate our independence from those stuffy British by exploding colorful things in the sky, from sea to shining sea. Here's a few area fireworks shows where you can get the full patriotic American experience, complete with the trio of summer smells that includes sunscreen, bug spray and burnt gunpowder.
Fairfield Fireworks: Wed., July 4th, dusk. Penfield and Jennings Beach, Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield. (Parking permits not required, free parking after 6 p.m. but lots fill up quickly.)
Danbury Fireworks: Tue., July 3, 9:30 p.m. Danbury Municipal Airport, 1 Wibling Road, Danbury.
Darien Fireworks: Sun., July 1, 9:15 p.m. Darien High School, 80 High School Lane, Darien.
Ridgefield Fireworks: Wed., July 4, 9 p.m. Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road, Ridgefield.
Westport Fireworks: Tue., July 3, 9:30 p.m. Compo Beach, Compo Beach Road, Westport.
