Before Facebook, Twitter, email, computers or even cars, P.T. Barnum was killin' it with his P.R. and marketing techniques. One of his success stories was a singer named Jenny Lind, known as the Swedish Nightingale. He led her on an American tour in 1850 that earned more than $712,000 in only nine months... a large sum of money for pre-Civil War times. Barnum Museum Executive Director Kathleen Maher will give a talk about the Jenny Lind sensation Thursday night at the still-tornado-damaged Barnum Museum in Bridgeport (enter through the bank gallery next door).
The Barnum Museum, 820 Main St., Bridgeport (enter through the People's United Bank Gallery). Thu., June 13, 7 p.m. $5. (203) 331-1104 ext. 100. barnum-museum.org.
