1) Balanced Hot Yoga Studio
When you walk into New Haven's Balanced Yoga, you'll be greeted by the staff with a "Welcome Home" or similar, familiar greeting. Lori Bonazzoli founded the studio six years ago with a vision of building a community and a space for people to decompress from the rigors of life and infuse their personal landscape with "spiritual nectar," she said. She'd already been practicing the ancient asanas for 10 years and teaching for three. This is the studio's second year winning the Advocate's Readers' Poll. Eight instructors lead classes of various styles at the Whalley Avenue studio. Eighty percent of the classes are taught in a "hot" room, and styles range from vinyasa to kundalini, tantric to Iyengar. The classes begin and end with meditation or breath work and almost all are vigorous classes meant to stir up a sweat.
