Wave: Phylis Satin. (May 7, 2012) |
1) Wave Gallery
WAVE began on College, where the Karma Salon now is. The boutique moved to Chapel Street a few years later, and in 1996 opened a new branch, amusingly called Twig, in Newport, Rhode Island. WAVE stays fresh by keeping its customers intrigued. "Every year, we do something new," says WAVE founder Phyllis Satin. "For years, we've been a destination for cards and chocolate. Now we want to be the destination for the best handmade chocolate in the U.S."—not just local anymore, but from Pennsylvania, New York, Wyoming and elsewhere. The newest area of the store is the WaveWear clothing department. But exquisite handmade jewelry has always been WAVE's #1 attraction. "We've come full circle," Satin says, "back to wanting things Made in America — handmade by American artists. It's not always easy finding it." But when you want to WAVE, you need your rings and bracelets to be magnificent.
