Red Barn

The Red Barn of Woodbridge: Ellen Eisenberg. (May 7, 2012)

1) The Red Barn of Woodbridge

Red Barn of Woodbridge expanded around a year ago. It's a big store, loaded with character and filled with clothes, jewelry, books and funky gifty things. But owner Ellen Eisenberg calls it "a little world." The store opened in 2007, just before the economy tanked, and so its survival and success is a measure of just how much customers appreciate both the service provided by Eisenberg and her staff, and the particular aesthetic and keen eye -- taste basically -- that the store possesses. "My staff is primarily hired from art school," says Eisenberg. "You can talk to almost anyone on my staff and you can get a unique perspective that works for you." The store has loads of repeat customers -- with something for everyone from infants to 100-year-olds -- and they're active on Facebook, with special sales, new product lines and events all spotlighted there. Look for everything from boutique Italian condiments, cool candy, and super-stylish clothes from Israel, Montreal, Spain and elsewhere.
