1) Stony Creek Urgent Care Center
When you need medical attention pronto, but aren't in need of an actual hospital, where do you turn? Emergency rooms are overcrowded and quite expensive. The wait alone is agonizing. Truth be told, Stony Creek Urgent Care can take care of a great majority of ailments that would otherwise be seen at an ER. The concept of urgent care centers is relatively new to Connecticut, and the doctors at Stony Creek Urgent Care are helping to educate us about what kind of medical emergency can be treated at a center like theirs. "'Urgent care' implies ‘not sick enough' if it's a sore throat and ‘too sick' if it's a broken ankle," says M.D. and Stony Creek Urgent Care CEO David Young. "That's not the case. We can take care of all that," he says. The doctors at Stony Creek Urgent Care can also refer you to an ER if necessary. "I'm an ER doc, and what I saw in the ER was that the vast majority of who I took care of didn't need to be there. They could've been taken care of somewhere else, but that somewhere else didn't exist," says Young, on why he chose to open an urgent care facility. Stony Creek Urgent Care employs all emergency room-trained physicians, ensuring that anything that might come through the door will be handled with care and expertise.
