1) Prime 16
Prime 16 has been awarded Best Beer Selection in a Bar three times since its opening in 2008. That is to say, every year that Prime 16 could win this category, Prime 16 has won this category. Bartender Caitlin Guelakis chalks it up to "variety and knowledgeable staff, as well as a constant rotation of taps, and the most limited beers in the state." And Prime 16 has a diverse selection for a diverse audience: "We have a balanced selection to appease different types of beer drinkers," including "stuff that's approachable for people just learning about craft beer," says manager Larry Townsend. Prime 16 caters to all levels of beer consumers, ranging from beer geeks in search of the perfect triple-hopped double red ale to basic Bud bottle buds. To that end, says Townsend, Prime 16 offers a variety of educational promotions, ranging from their Wednesday night beer tastings, which feature free samples of beers from a given brewery (that's right, free beer!) and periodic "tap takeovers" – when a brewery commandeers several of the bar's taps, all for educational purposes. Owner Bob Potter says that Prime 16's staff is "really passionate about beers." It seems like New Haven agrees.prime16.com
