Alternate Universe

Alternate Universe: Erik Yacko and Joseph Stinson. (May 3, 2012)

1) Alternate Universe

The secret to Alternate Universe’s success lies in its ability to constantly keep up to date with the newest comics, while retaining a carefully chosen selection of the classics. On Wednesdays when the new shipments arrive, those in-the-know hang around the shop so they can get first dibs on whatever is hot (as of late, it’s “Avengers vs. X-Men,” but if you’re reading this you probably already knew that). The New Haven shop has given comic book aficionados a welcoming environment in which to geek-out without shame for the past 16 years (and six years at the Milford location), and they show no signs of slowing down. In fact, co-owners Eric Yacko and Joe Stinson met while working at a chain store on Chapel Street that became Alternate Universe's future location -- and now, Alternate Universe has been in business three times as long as their predecessor, says Stinson. Small business superheros for the win!
