1) City Line Florist
Liquor, "lobstergrams" and fruit baskets might not be the first things that come to mind when you think of your local florist. But City Line Florist is anything but run of the mill. The family-owned business, which started in 1918, is housed in a centuries-old converted barn in Trumbull. But it also has its own phone app for ordering on-the-go and a snappy Facebook page. Nicole Palazzo, 22, the fourth-generation of her family to work in the business, takes care of the florist's modern face; meanwhile grandfather Bob Roehrich, 85, still sits behind the counter attending to walk-in customers. Earlier this year the florist secured a liquor license, for delivering wine along with its fruit basket gifts, and is one of only a handful in Connecticut with that permission. "We're a 'yes we can' florist," says Susan Palazzo.citylineflorist.com
