1) Andrew Flournoy (Tomato & Basil)
Attentiveness and a good bit of energy help make a great waitperson, according to first-time winner in this category Andrew Flournoy. In addition, having an outgoing personality “helps ten-fold when you’re a waiter,” the 26-year-old says. “It generates conversation and it really just makes everything run smoother.” Flournoy has worked at Tomato & Basil in his hometown of Fairfield for a year and a half and has been in the restaurant industry for five years. He’s also worked in radio and television broadcasting. As for the restaurant itself, “Tomato & Basil is a great little hidden gem,” says Flournoy. “The food speaks for itself.” Customers come back for the food, he says, but he hopes he’s another reason that they walk in through the door.
