1) Tarry Lodge
Opened in July 2011, Tarry Lodge is a new Westport landmark specializing in serving high-quality pizza and homemade pasta in a comfortable but classy environment. It's part of the B&B Hospitality Group which runs 14 certified green restaurants around the country (including some hot spots in New York City) and benefits from the leadership the group offers. “They're great mentors and partners,” says general manager Michael Cirillo. “We learn a lot from them and follow their lead.” Tarry Lodge is run with a straightforward philosophy: Keep it simple, and give the customer what they want. Pizza is the highlight, and upon entering the building you'll immediately see pizzaiolos hand-tossing Neapolitan pizzas into the air and into a 900-degree wood-fired oven. Chef Mario LaPosta is one of the most skilled pizzaiolos in the business, and he recently competed in the World Pizza Championships in Parma, Italy, along with 500 of the best pizza makers from around the world. “The perfect meal for me would be to sit at the bar, have a glass of wine along with pizza or pasta while you watch the pizzaiolos make pizza,” says Cirillo. The wine list highlights every region of Italy (the list is exclusively Italian), and the waitstaff is trained to help pair the appropriate drink with your meal. As summer approaches, outdoor dining once again becomes an option, and the Westport Farmers' Market and other local sources will be begin to be utilized for the freshest farm-to-table ingredients possible.tarrylodge.com
