If these walls could talk, what would they say?
The bar has over the past 18 years changed in clientele and in owners... I think the atmosphere now is a good fit because it has really evolved, so if these walls could talk, they would say, “I'm at my prime.”
Has anyone ever asked you to make a drink you've never heard of?
It was the very first drink I ever made as a bartender. A man ordered a Slo Uncomfortable Screw Against the Wall. My eyes just bulged and I nervously told him that I had never heard of it but I would make it if he told me what was in it. He said it was Slo gin, Southern Comfort, a screwdriver and a Harvey Wallbanger. To this day I've never forgotten it and a few times over the years people have ordered these and I feel impressed that I can make one.
What's the weirdest thing you've found in the bathroom at the end of the night?
It wasn't so much weird by what we found but what happened after we found it. About eight months ago I got a call from a guy who left his shirt in the bathroom the previous night. He asked us to mail it to him but I explained that we weren't able to do that. He kept calling us every week for months begging us to mail it to him. It soon became a running joke around here. Finally one day months later, shirt guy shows up and was reunited with his shirt.
Your favorite drink?
It's called The Squeeze and it's my own drink I created. … It's a Mai Tai with a kick to it. It's a good vacation drink.
