Are there different rules or words of wisdom for those partying on St. Patrick's Day?
Yes, pace yourself. Start out slow so you can last the whole day, classic tortoise-and-the-hare. Slow and steady finishes the race. It's not a day to be reckless, it's a day to celebrate. This is obviously our busiest day of the year. I work all day, all the staff works all day, but we love it. I want to be here honestly. I also want people to eat. It's all about corned beef, and we will go through 250 pounds of it.
What's the best drink you've had recently?
The Dirty Ashtray; I know it sounds gross, but I guarantee you won't find this drink anywhere else in Connecticut. It's served in a retro plastic ashtray (they have never been used for smoking) and has espresso vodka, Bailey's and Kahlua and we sprinkle coffee grounds on top to give it that ashy effect.
What's the difference between whiskey, rye and bourbon?
All bourbons are whiskies but not all whiskies are bourbons. Whiskey is just a broad classification. Bourbon is made in the USA and has to be made from at least 51 percent corn. Rye is made in Canada. American rye is made of mash. Scotch whisky (yes without the e) is obviously made in Scotland, but it must be aged in oak cask for no less than three years. We sell a ton of Irish whiskey here.
