What are people talking about at the bar these days?
People tend to talk about each other. A lot of gossiping, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It's great for me because I like to pretend there's a secret wall between me and the customers.
What is the most hilarious thing you've seen happen in a bar?
Back when smoking was allowed in bars, one of the customers was complaining about the smoke. A few minutes later he moved closer to the folks that were smoking, which I found odd. After he left I noticed he had vomited under the seat he was previously sitting at. About an hour later he came back in and ordered a beer. I was like, “oh ... hell no.”
Besides being a bartender, you're also in culinary school. What type of alcohol do you think is best to cook with?
It depends on what you're making. Wines are your most versatile. Sambuca is the most interesting liquor I've seen used. It adds a certain dynamic.
