Have you ever had to shut anyone off?
Yes, it happens often. There’s always a different reaction, some people get angry, some people don’t, some people actually agree that they should be shut off. I make it clear to them that I’m looking out for them. Alcohol affects everyone differently so while one person can have five drinks before they’re intoxicated, another person can only have two.
Have you read any bartending handbooks?
I have two. I have “The Bartender’s Handbook” and “The Mix Guidebook,” and that one is good because it gives you suggestions on what to pair things with. If I need to find a specific drink while I’m working, I’ll look on my phone.
Do you get drinks sent back to you? Which ones? What do you do?
I have. I got one of our specialty martinis, the Emerald, sent back. I put melon vodka instead of Midori in it, which was my fault. I tasted it, it was awful so I made a new one the right way.
