Looking for a leisurely artistic afternoon that doesn't break the bank? Head to the New Haven Free Public Library's free showing of artist Michael Kozlowski's exhibition The Symbolism of Places, on display through Aug. 1. Using a mix of oil, acrylic, lacquer and spray paint, the award-winning Fairfield-based artist's recent work includes large-scale, immersive works depicting store windows and interior man-made spaces executed in varying styles. The works are meant to evoke different emotions and provide a catalyst for a dialogue between the viewer and the work. "It has always been my contention that the best artwork strikes a balance among good composition, an intriguing execution and style, and at the heart of each work, unique and individual ideas," says Kozlowski. "These points, coupled with an intent toward originality, are what has guided my work."
