Plein air painting has a rich history. Beginning in the seaside towns of Cos Cob and Old Lyme in the late 1800s, it continues today. The tradition, which focuses on marine landscapes, is well-represented at the Susan Powell Fine Art's Summer Along the Shore. The show features the work of 20 nationally exhibited artists. Viewers will have the opportunity to purchase 80 paintings, many of which feature views of the Connecticut coast. The exhibit's opening reception happens Fri., July 12 from 4-8 p.m., with wine, hors d'oeuvres and a chance to meet the artists.
