An Exhibit About Edwardian Opulence at Yale Center for British Art

Edwardian Opulence: British Art at the Dawn of the Twentieth Century, on view at the Yale Center for British Art, presents a survey of visual art from the Edwardian period. Defined as much by the reign of King Edward VII as it was by the height of British Empire in the years preceding the First World War, the Edwardian period produced a wealth of lavish art and cultural artifacts. Was the period "a lingering coda of the Victorian era that resisted the advent of the Modern," or was it an example of great social and political dynamism? These and other questions inform the exhibition.
