The Hartford Bicycle Studio Open House

The Hartford Bicycle Studio Open House (COURTESY HARTFORD BICYCLE STUDIO / November 5, 2012)

Three months ago, the Hartford Bicycle Studio began converting a former nightclub on Arch Street into a studio for bikes-as-art. Bikes as art? There's not much canvas to work with (unless you're talking Big Wheels). But artists are crafty and can be minimalist, and many have done more with less space (see above for evidence). The studio takes in bikes, art-ifies them, and then puts them back on the street. This Friday, the studio'll open their doors in full-on, throw-down-and-pedal fashion, with performances by the Anarchist Pizza Society, Lana Lana, PK Ripper and Dirty D., Chris Capello and Boston singer-songwriter (and former Voice contestant) Caitlin Michele. Hartford restaurant Salute provides the food, which is guaranteed to be more than energy gels and Gatorade.
