New Haven artist Ronnie Rysz, whose works hang at Real Art Ways through mid-September as part of an exhibition called Closed Circle, has an interesting day job: he creates custom prosthetics for soldiers and civilians who are missing limbs. That might not have a great deal to do with his artwork, such as the mixed-media collage Culture Warrior (pictured), which is part of a larger focus on contemporary portraiture. But it may tell you about the ways Rysz has had to study the human body, the way it moves and functions, in order to do his job. And that's clearly needed for his art as well; although the subjects are stationary, the portraits in Closed Circle are full of life and motion. Head to the opening reception at the always-fun Creative Cocktail Hour on Aug. 16.
