Jon Tsoi is both a visual artist and a performance artist, and at the opening night of his Blindfold Inner Spirit Art exhibit at Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery this Friday he'll stir up some controversy with the very nature of his artistic process: He slices through canvases with a serrated knife, knots and burns fabric and canvas and paints while blindfolded in a blind fury of organic creation. You know — stuff like that. Growing up in Maoist China, Tsoi spent much of his youth as a communist propaganda artist. When Mao died, he came to America and reversed his purpose, dedicating himself to pushing his creative limits. Mission accomplished. Oh, and he's a You Tube sensation too, with over a quarter million views. Look him up there for a preview.
