Peter Max (September 4, 2012) |
Peter Max is one of the best known pop artists of all time. His use of bright colors and his vivid imagination made his posters ubiquitous on dorm room walls in the 1960s, and his works were have been licensed by 72 corporations trying to cash in on the "love" vibe. Max is unveiling his new Masters series at Darien's Geary Gallery this weekend, featuring interpretive works of Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Renoir and Degas portrayed in Max's signature colorful style. Pardon the tired cliché, but it's kind of like looking at the original masterpieces while on acid. (For just this one instance, the comparison seems both valid and appropriate.) Meet Peter Max himself at one of the two receptions, either Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon.
