The Center of Economic Policy and Research has come up with a solution to global warming: Stop working. You see, the less we work, the less time we spent in the office, which means less electricity, lighting and heating, which equals Earth saved. It’s a little more complicated than that, but in an effort to get this “less work” thing started, I only skimmed the article. From USNews.com:
A worldwide switch to a "more European" work schedule, which includes working fewer hours and more vacation time, could prevent as much as half of the expected global temperature rise by 2100, according to the analysis, which used a 2012 study that found shorter work hours could be associated with lower carbon emissions.
This could all be fixed by letting employees work from home once a week. We’d cut down on emissions and we’d still work enough hours to stay ahead of those damn socialist Europeans. Of course most companies won’t go for this because they still grade employees on face time rather than accomplishments. Corporations that don’t let you work from home are like gas stations that make you prepay. They’re basically saying, “We appreciate your dedication and commitment… we just don’t trust you at all, you thieving criminal bastard.”
